Travel Plum is a social enterprise, because after several years in nonprofits, and a lot
of research (there was a lot of reading) we noticed people wanted change. People's
perspectives of charities were not as positive as they once were.
So instead of opening another charity we chose social enterprise based on 3
common themes. These themes were in almost all articles, conversations and posts.
So we decided to change it up and design a platform based around the supporter.
A new and simple way to give based on the supporters needs as well as the social
First Feather: Impact
Arguably (not sure who is going to argue it, but I am ready) is impact. People want
their donation, their money to make a difference. We found that people were
disappointed, jaded and experiencing donation fatigue.
Just like everyone else we gave our time, or resources and insights to see small
growth, or different but not necessarily better change. We found people had a lot of
emotions toward this, and frankly so did we. Anger, disappointment (again),
frustration and then eventually, and thankfully we became determined. Determined
to find a new and simple way to give. Where and how could we fix this ?
The how, is social enterprise. The where, well that one took some time. We first
thought in very general terms. We were going to be the Oprah of social enterprise.
“YOU GET A DONATION, YOU GET A DONATION. EVERYBODY GETS A DONATION.”
It was a nice thought, but an even nicer and more realistic one has been to partner with the Give A Mile organization. A non-profit dedicated to giving the gift of togetherness and goodbye. Flights of compassion have an immediate impact.
Perfect! One feather ruffled, now onto the next.
Second Feather: No Ask
We want people to feel good about giving again. No matter how creative fundraising
gets in order to unburden people of donor fatigue, we decided to stop asking.
We want to leave people alone while doing daily errands. We don’t want people to
feel bad for saying no. Sometimes you don’t have the extra $50.00 dollars or the
extra $2.00 dollars. So we get it.
So, no more asking. We won’t chase, or hustle to ask you at your favourite hang outs. We want you to come to us. Just a choice. We are here, when you use our search engine, you know that you have made the choice to impact someone's life.
Third Feather: Engagement
Businesses need your engagement to sell you something. Employers need your
engagement to help them sell something. Travel Plum isn’t selling anything. It is
simply a choice, it is designed for the supporter. When you use Travel Plum as a way
to plan your travel, we are all stronger with your engagement.
We believe so deeply that a shift in giving is needed. However, we know we need
believers, supporters and change makers. Not as a way to sell, but as a way to

them achieve as many goodbyes as possible. Which means you are the change. I
mean, if we can sell you on the idea of change, that is what we got on the shelves.
So, to make a long post short, we are here to impact as many lives as possible.
